Back to «Facts about Ucrew»

Do you want to be part of exciting integration work amongst North- African immigrants in the heart of Barcelona?

20 years ago, two missionary couples started a ministry aimed at North- African immigrants in Barcelona. The ministry grew, and today consists of two centres that works with integration of immigrants. Through a variety of work like courses, past time activities, language courses and sports, the centres focus on helping North- African immigrants settle into their new life in Spain.

The centres run these activities:

–         Teaching reading and writing

–         Playgroups for children and young people

–         Craft activities for children

–         Therapy groups

–         Language courses in Spanish and English

–         Sport activities, like football and cycling

–         Music and drama

What you will do

As an intern in Barcelona, we want you to be able to use your gifts, talents and interests. With a ministry as varied as ours, this will be a possibility. The focus will however be on integration, and for you to join Ucrew Spain you should have a genuine interest in working with different people within different cultures.

In addition to working at the two centres, you will also be a part of the Arabic- speaking church in the city. In the church you may be asked to run groups for children and young people, like Sunday school and other activities.

International team

Started by missionaries coming from Egypt, this ministry in Barcelona has grown with more missionaries and volunteers joining the work. Coming from US, England, Venezuela, Brazil and Argentina, the interns will be a part of this international team.

Practical information

As an intern in Spain you are required to have a basic understanding and knowledge of Spanish before becoming an intern, but you will be offered to enrol on a language course at the beginning of your internship year should you so wish. You will also have the offer of attending a language course in the months leading up to the start of your year.

Since most of the immigrants you will be working with are coming from Arabic- speaking countries, it will also be helpful if you know a little Arabic.

In Spain you will be sharing a house together with other young adults near Barcelona city centre.
